Studio Policies at a Glance
Tuition & Materials
Tuition is calculated over the 9-month school year and separately over the 3 months of summer and is payable in equal monthly installments. Tuition is a flat rate and remains the same regardless the number of lessons available each month (ex. December and May have only two lessons). Tuition not paid by the 7th of each month will incur a late fee. Students are responsible for the cost of all books and lesson materials, including a semester materials fee and recital fee when applicable.
Attendance
A student who does not attend a lesson misses the benefit of that lesson. Your tuition reserves your time in the schedule and benefits within the studio. No make ups or credits are offered when a student cancels his/her lesson. There is a performance class offered at least once a semester that serves as an opportunity to make up lost time. Students are expected to attend during the summer.
Students are not to attend ill. If I arrive at your home and your student is ill or contagious with anything, the lesson will not be held and will not be rescheduled. Please let me know as soon as possible of any illness in your home or with your student. If the student is well enough to attend a lesson, we can discuss conducting the lesson remotely, if there is time in the schedule.
Practice
Sufficient practice is required (typically a minimum of 5 days a week, 6 is ideal). Parents are expected to assist and encourage regular quality practice and to make lesson and practice time a priority in their student’s schedule. Younger and beginning students do need parental guidance and involvement.
Expectations
Please be respectful of people and items in the studio. For the travel studio, please ensure a constructive teaching environment—free of distraction and interruption, just as if it were in my home studio—is available. Students must block out a window of 10 minutes on each side of their lesson to accommodate travel fluctuations in the schedule. Students unable to do this will not receive a credit or made up time should there be a delay.
Students are required to have a full sized 88-key keyboard with weighted keys, music stand and pedals (such as a Clavinova) or an acoustic piano (preferred).
Students are expected to be prepared with all of their lesson materials ready to go. Students are expected to have clean hands, trimmed nails and an attitude ready for learning. No food or gum is allowed during lessons. Be sure to finish any meals or snacks prior to the lesson.
Students are expected to participate in studio recitals and are strongly encouraged to participate in outside opportunities when ready.
Performance Preparation
Students who have reached memorization and proficiency are now ready to prepare for performance. To assist in this process, before every formal performance event, all students will be required to participate in 3-5 preparation performances taking place over several weeks prior to the event date. Preparation opportunities:
Dismissal
Consistent overdue tuition, unpaid absences, inability to resolve scheduling conflicts, inadequate teaching environment, failure to practice or consistent disrespect or a poor attitude will result in dismissal from the studio. Please provide one month’s notice for discontinuance. Paid months will not be refunded.
